Gonzalo is a scientist with extensive expertise in computational biology, genetics and genomics working jointly in the Maris and Diskin Laboratories in the Oncology Division of the Department of Pediatrics. His expertise ranges from structural computational biology and biological sequence analysis to cancer genomics and systems biology. His current research interests are in the area of childhood cancer genetics and genomics, to understand the pathogenic role of aberrant chromosomal alterations driving neuroblastoma and the implications of telomere biology across pediatric cancers. Gonzalo is widely published in the area of bioinformatics as co-author of 20 peer reviewed publications and two book chapters. He taught bioinformatics and computational biology at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) Molecular Biology PhD program. Gonzalo developed his postdoctoral work at the Department of Systems BiologyÊin Columbia University; he earned his PhD in computational biology and BS in biological sciences from UAM and received an MS in computational biology from UCM.
